Jim is the son of Auxilier Clive Gascoyne and Special Duties Branch wireless operator Airlie Campbell. His Dad was, by day, a farmer in the Sittingbourne area of Kent and, by night, a member of the Lynsted Patrol. While perfecting his skills locating wireless transmitters with a view to blowing them up (if they were German) he discovered the very secret Harrietsham Special Duties Branch control station with Airlie on duty inside the underground bunker. She should have shot him there and then, but ended up marrying him, and Jim is the result.
Jim regularly gives illustrated talks about the GHQ Auxiliary Units (aka Churchill’s secret army) both in person and by zoom, so get in touch to arrange a talk for your club, society or whatever.
