Woolacombe Down Memorial

Woolacombe Down, Devon. Plaque on trig. point.

Instigated by Roy Bradford’s brother, Geoff Bradford (a member of the Braunton Patrol). 

Lieutenant Roy Bradford initially served in Devon, leading the Devon Scout Section and under the command of Intelligence Officer Captain Edmundson. He went on to become Captain Bradford, the Intelligence Officer for Sussex Auxiliary Units from May 1943 until February 1944. He and several men from this group then joined 1 SAS Regiment. He was parachuted into France under Operation Houndsworth. Bradford was killed 20th July 1944 while operating behind enemy lines in Lucy-Sur-Yonne.
