Fordson 15-cwt Van

Body

The Fordson WOT2 15 cwt van was used by Auxiliary Units to transport men and stores. Externally identical to the standard 15 cwt lorry, it had a fixed tilt over the rear body with a wire mesh liner. This meant it was more secure for transporting weapons, explosives or rations, as any prospective thief was unable to reach beneath the canvas. They can be recognised by the V prefix on the serial number. The vehicles used by Auxiliary Units were the early production with small aero screens. Later in the war, vehicles were built with full windscreens and closed cabs.

North Somerset Scout Section used V710600 and the Royal Scots Scout Section V710014. Others are known to have been used at Coleshill House based on a request for new tyres. It is likely that more of this type were in use in other areas.
