Special Duties Branch Intelligence Officers were allocated to Areas, similar to the Intelligence Officers of the Operational Branch of Auxiliary Units but covered "Networks" which were not always restricted to a single county.
In 'Auxiliary Units History and Achievement' by Major Oxenden he recalled that at one of the initial meetings at Headquarters at 12 Whitehall Place, Operational Intelligence Officers 'found themselves with an equal number of strangers, officers and civilians, and even a woman. "You may as well get to know each other, gentlemen; you are all in the same game'. This was the first contact between Operational and Special Duties, and was the last they were to see of one another for some time."
In some areas it appears Operational and Special Duties Intelligence Officers were in contact with each other.
