In 1939 he was a Special Constatable in East Sussex Constabulary. He was discharged 15th November 1943 and joined H.M. Forces as a 2nd Lieutenant. In 1993 he talked briefly of his Auxiliary Units role to Lewes U3A for their book Lewes Remembers.
