He changed his name by deed poll from James Irwin to Irwin James in 1925. Known as I.J he kept poultry and rabbits. In 1921 he was an agricultural student at Seale Hayne College near Newton Abbot.Â
He married Edith Oliver in 1954 and he had cousins who were Auxiliers in Brixham, Devon.
