Corporal John Featherstone "Jack" Hartwright

Biography
The son of John and Anne, he married Lilian Jones in 1927 and later Eileen Walker in 1957. He worked for E C Wilson & Roger, a coal business then for 20 years worked for Frome Valley Transport as a driver. His obituary says "His pleasing personality won the hearts of all with whom he came in contact."
He managed to escape death in 1955 when a lorry crashed into his house demolishing the living room, killing the driver.

Corporal John Hartwright was a First World War veteran from the Royal Horse Artillery. He worked as a lorry driver and mechanic for Fowlers of Bishops Frome.
His daughter later recalled him sleeping with a box of grenades under the bed.
