John was the original Sergeant of Ugborough Patrol and was replaced by Alec Rogers when he was transferred to 16th Battalion (Plymouth) Home Guard on 20th October 1943.
He was a WW1 veteran serving as Sergeant 240003 in the Devon Regiment. Born in Morval, Cornwall to Edwin and Ellen he married Margaret Williams in 1921.
