Station description

The Out Station was located at Stone Farm near Great Glemham, the home of Operator Charles Kindred. The wireless was hidden in a mobile chicken hut with a concealed area at the far end. A catch was opened by poking a finger through a knot hole and entry gained to to the small chamber with the set. The aerial was run up a nearby Spanish Oak tree and could still be seen in the late 1990s. Messages were left under an old ploughshare and could be collected from inside the hut by removing a floorboard.
Stratford St Andrew Patrol member Herman Kindred, cousin of operator Charles Kindred, recalled the set may have been in the attic of the house (1996). We know that the location of sets moved during the war as more elaborate hides were constructed. The house was very secluded, at the end of a long driveway hidden away behind trees, making it an ideal location for secret operations.
