Biography
His father, also Donald, died in 1939. He worked as gamekeeper on the Duke of Portland’s estates. Donald followed in his father’s footsteps and became head keeper on the estate in 1957.
He was described as a crackshot as well as being an accomplished angler, be fitting from growing up with his father’s experience to learn from. He drove a 1926 9hp Humber which was well known in the area. He died at the wheel of this car without warning, whilst returning from a fox trapping mission. His lengthy obituary made no mention of Auxiliary Units.
He married Annie Calder Sutherland, the daughter of William Sutherland, tailor, from Dunbeath, on 12 Dec 1946.
He is buried at Berriedale Parish churchyard.
