In Cuckoopen Plantation, overlooking the valley and main road, was a well camouflaged Observation Post (OP), just large enough for one man. It was linked to the Operational Base in Long Shrubbery Wood by a telephone line which ran through the tree branches overhanging the road.
Excavated in 1996 by The Ridgeway Military and Aviation Research Group, it was the normal double-skinned chamber, except that the inner walls were not corrugated iron, but asbestos.
In 2015 National Trust volunteers built a replica Observation Post near the replica Operational Base overlooking the estate. It was officially opened by Cornish Auxilier Trevor Miners.
