On enlistment he mustered as a clerk, passing the Clerk's Trade Test, Class III on 17 Mar 1942. He moved through various companies of No 12 Training Battalion (Supply) RASC, Aldershot.
On 19 Aug 1942 he was posted to Auxiliary Units, apparently serving initially at Coleshill House, filling a vacancy there. He is recorded as proceeding to join an operational section on 20 May 1943. He was attached to REME workshops for pay, rations and discipline the following day. This indicates that he had been sent to the Scout Section or alternatively the headquarters section. He was promoted to Corporal on 17 Jun, and the War Substantive rank on 15 Sep. He was promoted Local Lance Sergeant on 8 Nov 1943
A letter dated 3 Dec 1944 about the return of Patrol equipment after Stand Down mentions Sergeant Piercy being involved, indicating that he was one of the very few regular men retained for training.
He remained with Auxiliary Units until 15 Jan 1945 when he was posted to the RASC Holding Battalion. Five days later he went to 614 Company RASC and remained with them until his release on 16 Jun 1946.
