Biography

He was married to Agnes Campbell. He worked for Patent Slip Wool Mills where he was in charge of spinning.

Grandson, John Macleay; "My grandfather by all accounts was a very proud man, quiet and very well respected by all who knew him, his surname wasn't common to Stornoway so even now that's how the older generation on Stornoway refers to and knows my mother, and to those that knew him referred to him as a gentlemen, there are still some about that did know him although sadly and inevitably time takes them away.

I still have in my possession a long service inscribed pocket watch presented to my grandfather from the mill where he worked, a beautiful memento from another time in history.

My grandfather went through his life with quiet diligence and strong integrity, in his work, in his private life and ultimately in his role with the auxiliaries. I have nothing but good thoughts of his memory and I only wish I had gotten the chance to meet him. My mother, as always continues to preserve his memory, he was a good man, still greatly missed and once again, by having him on your site and now with his picture included, you've gone a long way to acknowledging a huge sense of pride in her father which she carries daily".
