Biography

Walter was Area Commander (Administrative and Quartermaster Duties) of Groups 6, 7, 8, 10 and 11 and Group Commander of Group 10.

Walter Gentle was a local Butcher and Pig Farmer specialising in saddleback pigs. He was secretly known as "Hoggie" to the Patrol members.

 A First World War veteran he served in 11th Battalion Suffolk Regiment and was awarded the Military Cross.

He was awarded an MBE in the 1945 New Years Honours for services rendered to '202 Battalion'.

The son of Frederick and Mabel he took over his father's butchery business. He married Elizabeth Shelton Berry in 1924 while he was the Secretary to Brandon Football Club and the local Ratepayers Association.
