Biography

Alfred was born to Lightkeeper David Budge and Barbara Simpson at the Chanory Light House, Rosemarkie on the 14th of March 1904. Although his surname was Budge, in later years, his surname was often quoted as Bonar Budge

Alfred, at age 24  , married fellow school teacher  Helen Robertson in Alloa on the 31st of June 1928. His address was listed as Schoolhouse, Marnoch, Huntly

In February 1940, he was the Headmaster of Marnoch School

In June 1940, he is listed playing Bowls as a pair, quoting an R.Wilson (Possibly Robert Wilson of Marnoch Patrol?)

He taught at Marnoch School from 1927-1943 before moving to Aberlour High where he taught. None of the students ever recall him speaking of the war. He was known as "Budgie" to the students.

In the London Gazette on the 16th of November 1945, he is listed as being promoted to Lieutenant on the 11th of June 1945

In 1946, he was listed in the Army Cadet Force as being promoted from 2nd Lieutenant to Captain (Dufftown)

In  July 1948, Alfred stood as a candidate in a municipal by-election to be on the Aberlour Town Council; he beat two other candidates. Which was also mentioned in 1954, by 1955, he was Baillie A.H Bonar Budge  and Dean of Guild in 1956. 

In 1957, he was presented with a Cadet Force Medal by Lt.Col J.E.Cumming for his good and faithful service in the 3rd Banffshire Battalion Gordon Highlanders ACF. He retired from his post with a dinner in October 1958

In 1963 he is listed as Major A.H.Bonar Budge presenting a Cadet Force trophy in Aberlour.

The Hay family that stayed in the basement of the Rectory; the eldest daughter was out playing in the Rectory's orchard when she found a Hand Grenade.  The local policeman took this away and back to the police station until a bomb disposal team took it away to deal with it.

Alfred retired from teaching in July 1966 after 41 years of teaching, 23 of which in Aberlour

In 1975, he was in the local press as a Session Clerk at Aberlour Parish Church. The Rectory, High Street, Aberlour, was Alfred's home and was listed for sale in 1976

Alfred passed away aged 80 on the 12th of June 1984 at Dr Gray's Hospital, Elgin.
