She enrolled in the ATS in 1939 in the ranks. Beatrice Temple visited her at Lincoln 1 Feb 1942
Post war she remained in the ATS reaching the rank of Lieutenant in 1950 with the rank of Honorary Captain. She had also been awarded the MBE in 1946.
