Career
He enlisted in the 4th Scottish rifles (Cameronians) on 7 Jul 1916. He recorded 5 years prior service with the Volunteers. At the time he was an engine driver, though another part of his service record states brick burner, suggesting he worked at the brick works. He transferred to the 2/4th Seaforth Highlanders less than a month later. He subsequently transferred to the 2/16th London Regiment on 28 Mar 1918, serving as Corporal 697211. He served until 26 Sep 1919.
