Known as Tony he was a school friend of Bob Millard and they played Rugby together. Bob recalled he was very resourceful with booby-trap devices. In 1945 he passed part 1 and 2 of the exams of Incorporated Society of Auctioneers and Landed Property Agents. He was working for Messrs. Charles W Oatley & Co, Auctioneers and Estate Agents of Corsham and Bath.
