Arthur Francis Walton

Private Arthur Francis Walton
19 Nov 1921 - 16 Sep 2002
Biography

Arthur worked in the coal mine at Norton Hill Colliery, Welton during the war and was trained with explosives for this role, which obviously was useful when he was recruited to Auxiliary Units. He recalled how he was asked to a special meeting, shortly after having joined the normal Home Guard, where Captain Shackell asked to become a member of Auxiliary Units. His niece recalled that he kept his military explosives under his bed and as a result his mum was not allowed in to clean his room.
