Career

Bernard had served in the First World War as a driver in the Army Service Corps in France. He joined 2nd Mounted Division Supply Column on 19 Nov 1914, already a driver and mechanic. As M2/034921 he was dispatched to France on the Viper departing Southampton on 4 Sep 1915, arriving at Rouen the next day. He served with 273 Company (later 21 Divisional Supply Column). Later during 1918 he was with 13 GHQ Reserve MT Company.

His membership of the Patrol is known from a photograph taken in the winter of 1940 where he appears with other members. His name does not appear on the nominal roll at all. This may suggest he left Auxiliary Units prior to the middle of 1942.
