Other information

Bertie was invited to the reunion at Coleshill on the 25th October 1994, which he attended. His wife and daughter were so proud of him and when they collected him he was so happy that he had the chance to meet up with some old pals. In a 1994 Western Morning News paper article Bertie is quoted; "To a 16 year old it was all a bit of fun. How many youngsters had a Thompson machine gun under his bed plus 20lbs of explosives ? I slept on that for the rest of the war and my room was never cleaned out".

Unfortunately he died suddenly in 1996 and he never got the chance to talk in detail about his exploits.

His daughter watched with pride as surviving Auxiliers marched past the Cenotaph for the first time in 2013 and only wished he had lived long enough to be one of them. She is sure he was there in spirit.
