Left Auxiliary Units to join the Royal Navy in 1943 and was demobbed in 1947. Though known as an Auxilier, Charles is not recorded on the nominal roll.
Charlie joined the Local Defence Volunteers, after lying a little about his age, in 1941. He recalled keeping his loaded rifle by the front door. After about a year he joined Auxiliary Units and swapped the rifle for revolver and a Tommy gun
