He joined the regular Home Guard on 20 Jun 1940.

He joined the Auxiliary Unit after that and was formally transferred to 203 Battalion in late 1942

He was promoted to Lance Corporal 1 Oct 1942.

When Sergeant White left for the Army, he was promoted to be the Patrol Sergeant.
