Born in Guildford, Surrey to Charles and Agnes, Charles was the father of Auxilier Keith Trussler. He was the Gamekeeper for the Popham family of Hunstrete House. He was remembered as a real character. A short, fat man with plenty of bounce, he was a hard man and not one to cross.
In 1921 he and wife Doris are living at Stoodleigh where he is a Gamekeeper for Frank Spearman.
A WW1 veteran he served in France in the Dorsetshire Regiment signing up in Dorchester 12 May 1914. Army number 9574, later 275248. He later transferred to the Devonshire Regiment as a Corporal. He was reprimanded on 21 March 1917 while serving as a Corporal, in the 3rd Dorset Regiment for stating a falsehood to a Warrant Officer. He was discharged following multiple gun shot wounds to the head, leg and shoulder. He was recorded as being 5 foot 5 inches with brown hair, blue eyes and a fresh complexion.
