Biography

Eric Cameron Finlayson was born on the 28th of February 1906 to Solicitor Robert Finlayson and his wife Jeannie Elizabeth Cameron at 137 Blenheim Place in Aberdeen.

In the 1921 Census, Eric stayed at 61 Gray Street (age 15) with his parents and sister Jean (age 9).

Eric went to Robert Gordon's College at age 11, where he stayed for 6 years before going to university.  In 1932 he set up an accountancy firm where he worked for almost 50 years before retiring.

Eric married on the 13th of June 1934 to Ena Macphail Massie, a school teacher.  Eric was listed as a chartered accountant and stayed at 61 Gray Street in Aberdeen. They had four daughters including twins.

Eric was listed in 1935 and 1940 as residing at Helensdale, Milltimber.  He had an office at 91 Union Street in Aberdeen, which was listed as being the North British and Mercantile Insurance Company. In 1969 his Chartered Accountancy business - Finlayson & Co was listed as being at 102 Crown Street Aberdeen.

Eric was secretary with the Aberdeen Dairymen's Wartime Association from 1942 to 1951. He masterminded the zoning of Aberdeen's milk deliveries, creating 1000 zones for 30 milkmen. 

In 1933, Eric was also listed as being the Secretary for the Aberdeen and District Beekeepers Association.

Eric maintained his interest in his old school by becoming a governor and then president of the Gordonions in 1953.

Eric passed away at the age of 86 at the Hawkhill Nursing Home, Milltimber, on the 10th of September 1992 after a long illness. His address was listed at 19 Carnegie Crescent in Aberdeen.
