The nominal roll records an “E Baxter” in the Spalding Patrol with no other information. There appears to have been only one E Baxter in Spalding at the time. We have not been able to conclusively prove Ernest Baxter was the Patrol member and would welcome contact from anyone with additional information.
Ernest was the youngest son of Mr and Mrs Frank Baxter of 130, Commercial Road, Spalding. He was a well known local footballer playing for Seymour Cobley’s FC. He married Myra Cook at St John the Baptist church, Hawthorn Bank on 5 Jun 1935. Following the wedding they moved into 27 Regent Street. He worked for Ruysens of Pinchbeck. In later life he took up bowls.
He died at Johnson Hospital in Spalding and was cremated.

None of the newspaper reports, including his obituary, make any mention of wartime service in any organisation. This may be the result of keeping it secret, which would be consistent with Auxiliary Units service.
In 1939 he was in the Auxiliary Fire Service.
