Private Ernest Lee left the Auxiliary Units and joined the Royal Engineers as a Sapper on 11 Sep 1941.
He was given Agricultural Leave 23 Aug 1943 to 19 Sep 1943.
He was posted to 727 Artisan Works Company. He was likely with them when they travelled to the Falkland Islands to help erect over 300 Nissen huts and other works connected with garrisoning the islands against possible Japanese attack in 1942.
In August 1945 he was admitted to hospital in Edinburgh with serious medical problems and despite transfer to between hospitals to York, remained there until his death from Ulcerated Colitis.
