Sergeant Esli Joel "Joe” Avery

Biography
He married Nora Stevens on 1st October 1927 at Clapham Parish Church and the couple had two children, a girl and a boy.
After the war he was a regular contestant in the annual Clapham and Patcham produce show, winning frequently. In 1961 he took the Banksian Medal as highest horticultural winner. In the show's jubilee year in 1967 he took 10 first prizes and 7 seconds from a total of 19 entries.
