The son of Ernest and Nora Morey, he was born at Windmill Farm. He was known as Fred.
He was employed by Stan Draper at Gatehouse Farm during the war.
He met Mary Mitchell, his wife to be, through the East Wight Young Farmer’s Club. She was the daughter of Harry Mitchell, another Patrol member, who farmed on the adjacent farm. In 1942 he bought her a signet ring for her birthday for £30, more than a month’s wages. The couple married five years later on 12 Aug 1947 at St Michael’s Church, Ryde. They had three sons and a daughter.
In 1953 he purchased Windmill Farm and he ran this while his wife ran a Bed and Breakfast in the farmhouse. They retired to a bungalow they had built on the farm, on Upton Road, in 1979.
