Biography

George was awarded his Military Medal for the Battle of the Somme on 4 July 1916. Citation reads; After all communications were cut off, he brought messages back from Scots Redoubt to his Brigade Headquarters under very heavy fire. Passing through the enemies curtain fire twice again and returned with a relieving party. Always carrying out his duties cheerfully and with great determination and courage.

The Bar to the Military Medal was awarded 26 Aug 1917 during the attack and capture of Cologne Farm. Citation reads; Maintaining communications between Brigade Headquarters and his Battery's and after his lines became broken he repaired them under very heavy machine gun and artillery fire. After being wounded and unable to walk struggled and reached Battery Headquarters and took up duty on the phone and remained at his post under very trying conditions until relieved.

Not recorded on the nominal roll. He was the father of Norman. Before the OB and OP were built at Hundon Manor some ammunition, rifles and machine guns were stored at their house. 

A Calor gas failure in June 1942 caused an explosion in the OB and George was badly burnt. The Patrol was disbanded after this incident.

Kipper was a Boy Scout leader between the wars.
