He married to Susan Davies in 1932 and they had two children, Rita and Christine. During the war they lived with his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Davies, known as Bopa Lizzie, at Pentre Uchaf, a large cottage split into two properties. Born Elizabeth Stacey, her brother David's children included Howell, Morgan and Vincent Stacey, other members of the Patrol.
On 1 May 1941 he was stopped by the Police for riding his bicycle without a rear light in the High Street Glynneath. It cost him 10 shillings as a fine.
After the war, he worked for British Aluminium Company at Rheola in Resolven. He is buried at the Ebenezer Chapel in Pontneddfechan.
