Born in Frome, the son of Reverend Wilson Daniel and Francis he married Vera Harriet Kinnear 2 Feb 1916 in Marylebone.

He resigned due to ill health 28th February 1943. Recorded on the nominal roll is Documents to War Office 1st May 1946.

A pre-war Navy man he was made Lieutenant 15 Sept 1909 and awarded Distinguished Service Order during WW1 while on HMS Dauntless. He was awarded the D.S.O at Buckingham Palace 5 March 1920.

While serving on HMS Royal Oak as a Gunnery Officer in 1928 he was involved in what became known as The Royal Oak Affair and given a conviction on four charges, all involving acts to the prejudice of good order and naval discipline. This affected his career and he was declined any further advancement and was placed on the Retired List at his own request 1 Nov 1928.

Daniel attempted a career in journalism, but when this and other ventures were unsuccessful, he disappeared into obscurity amid poor health in South Africa.
