Born in Derbyshire to Percy and Lillie, his father was a Research Chemist. He married Enid Williams in Hampshire in 1940.
Guy Bowles lived at Fryen Court Farm. He had also been a member of the Civil Air Guard, a scheme to train civilian pilots prior to the war, in order that they could be called up if war broke out. In return they received subsidised flight training and local airfields through flying clubs. Though only 26, he doesn’t appear to have been called up for RAF service which is unusual, unless he had only received very brief training under the scheme.
He seems to have travelled to Argentina with his father and sister in 1938 and again to South Africa in 1957 with his wife. He was also a keen sailor.
