Biography

Dennard was the Sergeant of Cwmellynfell Patrol. 

Bill was born in Benson Street, Cambridge. He was the eldest of six children to Thomas and Harriet. He married Margaret Thomas in Pontardawe in 1920. He would have been 24 at the start of WW1. He enlisted 1 Sept 1914 and served in the Yorkshire Light Infantry as Private 16408 but was swiftly discharged due to his occupation. He is recorded as 5 foot 11 inches tall with light chestnut hair, a fair complexion and blue eyes. It is suspected he worked for Cambridge Railway before and just after WW1.

In 1939 he was an ARP Warden. In 1919 he joined the National Union of Railway Workers in Wales. He was born as Thomas William but all Auxiliary Units paperwork and the 1939 Register record him as William Thomas, he was always known as Bill.
