The son of Arthur and Louisa Ridgway. He married Phyllis D A Southgate in 1951. The family moved to Queensland, Australia in 1957. He later took over his father's Cycle shop.

Auxillier Bowman recalled Jack was a very strong man that taught the Patrol unarmed combat having taken a Charles Atlas course. Nobody could outfight him.
