John Alexander Moore

Lieutenant John Alexander Moore, M.B.E.
03 Feb 1896 - 12 Dec 1949
Biography

He was born in Edinburgh. After qualifying as a solicitor in Dundee, he moved to Wick. He took on the part-time role of Town Clerk in 1932 and also had a private legal practice. In addition, he was Factor for the Pulteneytown Estate.

During the war, he was Fuel Officer and held other Civil Defence appointments. He was awarded an MBE (Civil Division) in the 1942 King’s Birthday Honours List as a result. Appointed Procurator Fiscal of Caithness in May 1943, he was responsible for prosecuting cases on behalf of the state. At the time his prior pleading of cases was described as wholly admirable, clear, concise and persuasive. It is likely that he left Auxiliary Units at this point, since the role required him to be away from Wick at times. He was not in good health and eventually resigned as Procurator Fiscal in Oct 1945.

On 15 Jan 1945, he resigned his positions in Wick as the result of ill health, having had a long period away from work already, and retired to Edinburgh where he died. He was survived by his wife Evelyn and daughter.
