Biography
John was born in Dingwall. He was married and had a daughter, Margaret Wilkie, who lived in Edinburgh.
After the First World War, he was piper to Lord Beresford. He was also pipe-major for the Brora Pipe Band for many years and judged piping competitions as well as teaching young pipers.
He was a river ghillie popular with fishermen. He was also a member of Clyne Parish Council for a period.

Career
He was in the Lovat Scouts and mobilised with them at the outbreak of the First World War. He transferred to the Cameron Highlanders and was promoted to Pipe-Major.
