Biography

John Tevendale Skene was born on the 10th of December 1909 to farm servant James Skene, and Ann Skene (Tevendale) at Newbigging, Bervie.

In the 1921 Census, John is listed as the only son residing at Rowanbank Fourdon with James and Ann.

John married Susan Ann Henrietta Stewart on the 12th of June 1937 at the Alexander Hotel in Stonehaven. His occupation was listed as a Gamekeeper at Pitspunkie, Rickarton. At the time he was employed by Mr J. Gordon Mackintosh, Muchalls Castle and was recorded as being appointed a Gamekeeper to Major R.J. Mackenzie, Bourtie House, Aberdeenshire.

Susan died on the 10th of February 1945 at Rumbleyond, Rickarton. This appears to have been perhaps at her parents, but John is listed on the death entry as residing at Straloch, Newmachar.

John married Margaret Harwell (Riach) on the 1st of June 1946 at Sclattie Church, Blairduff. Margaret was a housekeeper at Straloch House, where John was the Gamekeeper at the Straloch Estate.

John and his wife Margaret were keen whist players in Stormontfield, Perth.

John passed away on the 23rd of May 1945 age 55. He was listed as staying at Berryhill, Stormontfield, Perth, Margaret passed away on the 30th of December 1977 at Strathern Hospital, Auchterarder.
