Kenneth David Treasure

Lieutenant Colonel Kenneth David Treasure, C.B., C.B.E., T.D., D.L.
24 Sep 1913 - 26 May 1983
Biography

Kenneth Treasure was the son of the wartime Monmouthshire Coroner, David Treasure. Like his father he qualified as a solicitor in 1937 joining the family firm. Having been in the Territorial Army since 1932, he was mobilised at the outbreak of war. The Monmouthshire Regiment was training in the UK through the early part of the war and he was certainly in Danehill, East Sussex for his wedding to Jean Mitchell in April 1941. Apparently went to India and Burma presumably after the Japanese attacked in December 1941. While a newspaper report in February 1944 places him back in South Wales applying post of Clerk to Council for Glamorganshire, the family view is that he was still in INdia.

After the war Colonel Ken Treasure played golf regularly at Newport Golf Club, where there had been a Special Duties wireless transmitter concealed. A wartime member of the club recalled that he played every Sunday with two other Colonels who would then enjoy their Bell's whiskey together in the clubhouse afterwards.

After the war he was appointed Deputy Coroner to his father and in 1958 took over the role. He was a legal advisor to the Control Commission in Germany between 1946 and 1949. Subsequently he was appointed Deputy Lieutenant for the County of Monmouthshire in 1957. He played a major role in both the Cadet Force and also the Territorial Army Association and the national Territorial Army Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Defence, being honoured for his service. He retired with the Honorary rank of Colonel after the war and was always known locally as Colonel Treasure.
