In 1923 he passed the diploma of dental surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh to qualify as a dentist. In 1923, he was appointed part-time dental surgeon to the Education department of the County of Banffshire. He was permitted to practice privately in addition to this. The 1940 and 1942 Dental Registers gave his professional address as Linden, Macduff. He was influential in the construction of Macduff's Tairlair swimming pool as a keen swimmer, later officiating at many of the Macduff Swimming Club events. He was also a member of the Macduff Bowling Club.
He married Jeanette J Howes, known as Nettie, and they had two children in 1927 and 1930. Sadly their daughter Dorothy died in 1945 aged 18.
It appears he was also a part of the Macduff ARP service
He was an active member of the Banff Dramatic Society and produced a number of plays as well as acting in many more. After the war he became a Councillor on Macduff Council.
