At some time between July and Dec 1941 Matt was promoted from Corporal to Sergeant.

Matt went to Coleshill to train, and as well as sessions at Balmoral they were also sent to the Isle of Wight around D-Day.

Local newspapers show that Corporal (until July 1941) Aitchison played a large role in training the loacl platoon of R.N.F Cadets.

It is rumoured that, after the war, Matt's wife found a store of explosives and hand grenades etc in the cupboard under the stairs and that these were dumped down a local mine shaft.
