Career
Maurice had been a member of the Territorial Army serving with the Royal Artillery since 1938. Mobilised at the start of the war, along with many farmers, he was released back to his farm as food production was considered a greater priority. His military experience was probably why he was selected to lead the Patrol after Walter Strange dropped back to Corporal.
