  Biography
              The son of John and Gertrude Hurst, he married Irene Sinnitt in 1943. Mervyn and Lionel were brothers.
In 1940 he was awarded the Royal Humane Society award for bravery having saved a man from drowning in Asheldham Chase gravel pit.
