Norman was born in Glastonbury, the son of Sergeant Frederick Turner and Florence. Norman worked for T.N Chard and Sons who were bootmakers.
His service record states he was 5 foot 4 inches tall with light brown eyes and dark brown hair. Keen on swimming and driving, football, cricket, running and tennis, he had taught himself morse code.
His service record is here. One part of his record states; Bit of a shrimp but keen and has a good sense of humour.
After his death, his possessions were returned to his father and included a cigarette lighter, a fountain pen, letters, photos and newspaper cuttings. He was posthumously awarded Italy Star, 1939 – 45 War Medal, 1939 – 45 Star but not until 1955.
