Other information

Norman was Master of the Culmstock Hunt for over 50 years and it was noticed he always wore his Auxiliary Unit lapel badge on his jacket. Norman Bartlett lived in Seaton during war. He was the son of the Lloyds Bank Manager, was a good shot and good at rugby. He said he had meet Winston Churchill in Berkshire at Coleshill House where his Patrol were trained.

He was an old boy of All Hallows School and his Auxiliary Unit role was mentioned in the school magazine obituary;

Norman W. Bartlett (1929-33)
We were very sorry to hear from his wife Diana that Norman Bartlett had died in his 91st year in 2006. Norman revelled in his schooldays at Allhallows and enjoyed playing club rugby and shooting with Archie and Harry Pape among others in the years afterwards. Norman was a poultry farmer near Honiton, but his great passion was fox-hunting. An article in The Field described him as a true countryman and he contributed to various sporting magazines. He became Master of the Culmstock Hunt in 1952 and he bred the Culmstock Minkhounds. During the war he was a member of a Secret Auxiliary Resistance Unit.
At a party to celebrate his 90th birthday, hosted by his great friends Mr and Mrs Vyvian Eames at their Cotley home, near Chard, almost 200 friends attended and 25 hunts were represented – such was the respect in which Norman was held. Over 400 attended the Thanksgiving Service for Norman at St Andrew’s Church, Colyton. Our sympathy goes to Diana on the loss of her husband. Appropriately she tells me she was a guest at Archie Pape’s 100th birthday party.
