Sheilaigh Sandford-Johnson (Miss)

Second Subaltern Sheilaigh Sandford-Johnson
24 Mar 1920 - 28 Mar 2004
Biography

Sheilagh was commissioned along with others definitely recruited to Special Duties. It appears that almost all the women were put through basic training at Edinburgh in groups, but not everyone in a group would be marked out for Special Duties. A newspaper article about her wedding states she served in France and Holland

The daughter of Colonel Benjamin Sandford-Johnson D.S.O.

After the war, in 1952, she married Prince Yuri Galitzine (George). As a British Army Officer during the war, he had played an important part in the investigation of German War Crimes against SAS and SOE personnel, including Captain Victor Gough, formerly of Auxiliary Units. He had even arranged the ongoing funding of the SAS War Crimes Investigation as the Army was winding up the SAS. This was one of the actions that resulted in the SAS surviving this winding up and being officially reformed a few years later.
