Biography
The son of Thomas Snr and Mary Maxwell. Of his three brothers, Dave and Laurie joined the RAF, the latter in 1939 direct from school. John stayed at home on the farm to maintain food production, as did Thomas. Sam, disabled by polio, found a job with the War Ag.

His son recalled a small silver cup engraved Coleshill 1942, presumably from the Patrol’s victory in one element of that year’s Coleshill competition. He described as being won as a member of a “Home Guard Commando” on a training exercise. The children played with his steel helmet and gas mask after the war.
