Career
He had previously served in the Gloucestershire Regiment 1914-1919.
He joined the Local Defence Volunteers on 4 May 1940. Presumably he was recruited into Auxiliary Units direct from the Home Guard.
Initially he was the Sergeant of Hatfield Peverel Patrol before being transferred to Terling Patrol. The Patrols appear to have been reorganised and renamed in 1942.
He attended a weekend course at Coleshill on 24 July 1942.
