Biography

Born to William and Eliza (McCulloch) Mustard at Silverhills, near Lossiemouth, Moray. In 1924, William marries Kathleen Stuart George in Pancreas London.

In October 1924 – William Alexander Mustard (22) Farmer and wife Kathleen Stuart (18) depart England on ship Berrima to Sydney. They move on to New Zealand where they have William Stuart Mustard born 1926 and Alistair Corrigal Mustard born 1929. In 1931 New Zealand Electoral Rolls shows they were in Spring Creek. He was well known competitor at the Highland Games and he continued his athletics in New Zealand.

24th May 1934 – William Alexander’s father, William, dies at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. The article mentions that he is survived by one son, William, who is farming in New Zealand, and also a well-known athlete. The funeral is at the Family burial ground at Michael Churchyard, Gordonstoun. In 1938 the family return as passengers on "Rotorua", from Wellington to London.

In 1947, William Alexander Mustard, Farmer of Muirton Lossiemouth, applies for a drinks licence for the Glen Brae Hotel, Irvine Road, Largs as the applicant/proprietor.

In 1952, their children William and Alistair return to New Zealand as passengers on “Captain Cook” Glasgow to Wellington.

March 26th 1966, Kathleen dies at 26 Cornhill Road Aberdeen, listed as being married to William Alexander Mustard, usual residence Muirton. In April 1966 William Alexander Mustard married Mercedes Pereira Iglesas (Spanish) at Cardigansire, Wales.

25 Sept 1985, William Alexander Mustard dies in Carmarthen, Dyfed, Wales.

Service No. 396002; William Alexander Mustard (re-enlisted); Date of Attestation - 7 Feb 1921, for 4 yrs; Age - 18y 11 months. Place of Attestation - Lossiemouth; Transfer to or from - To 6th Bn Seaforth Highlanders (TA), 2 Dec 1922; Trade - Bank Clerk; Father - Mr William Mustard, Muirton Farm, Draine. Discharge or Becoming Non Effective - 14 April 1921; Place - Dunkeld; Cause - on reenlistment into DF (6th Bn Seaforth Highlanders); Rank & Character - Private Very Good.

1941 - reference made to Home Guard "Mr W Mustard - Muirton"
1942 - reference made to " In 1942, the Home Guard took over, and in June 42, the 1st Moray Battalion Home Guard formed 'E' Company under the command of Captain W A Mustard to man the Battery. "
