Other information

He was a First World War veteran. He served as a Corporal in the Royal Engineers until he was discharged 1st July 1915 as 'no longer physically fit for service'. He re-joined the Hampshire Regiment 25th September 1916 and became a Lieutenant in 21st Battalion Machine Gun Corps. He was awarded the Military Cross 1st January 1919. He was presented the Military Cross by the King at Buckingham Palace alongside his brother John in May 1919.

He was a later recruit to Auxiliary Units in 1941. He was subsequently promoted to Sergeant. He features on Lance Corporal Riddell's list of members of the Patrol, but is not the Patrol leader at Stand Down. He is listed as a Patrol Leader on the 1945 Reunion menu as is JA Blackman. There are 9 Patrol leaders listed for East Wight on this menu, though only 8 Patrols appear on the Hancock list of Patrols in September 1944. Although Patrols were sometimes disbanded, this doesn't appear to have been case in East Wight.
